Aberdeenshire Council has been urged to continue working collaboratively to address a projected £81 million budget gap over the coming years.

Despite being recognised for improving service performance and strong community engagement, authority chiefs face mounting financial challenges.

An Accounts Commisson report says plans must address undelivered savings and an ageing population. A strong collaborative approach between councillors and senior officers will be key to delivering sustainable services.

The council, alongside its local partners, are tackling financial and service pressures within health and social care sectors particularly affecting the elderly demographic.

Accounts Commission chair Jo Armstrong emphasises the urgency in setting out proposals for savings and transformation : “Whilst this is a well-run council, there is a clear need to set out how they will plan and deliver savings through transformation. The council’s projected budget gap is amongst the largest in Scotland."

She further highlighted the importance of meeting the council’s June deadline to implement these plans.
