Police officers in Aberdeen have been confronted with serious antisocial behaviour after stopping an illegal electric bike in Byron Square.

It happened around 9.15pm on Sunday, 17th May, 2026.

A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody and charged, with the bike seized by authorities.

He is expected to appear in court at a later date.

During the police operation, officers encountered a large gathering of youths who engaged in violent and antisocial behaviour.

Two officers were assaulted, and a police car was vandalised.

An 18-year-old man associated with a nearby shoplifting incident was issued a recorded police warning.

Chief Inspector Vicky Stables emphasised the gravity of the situation.

“This violent and antisocial conduct towards police is completely unacceptable," she said.

“Our officers must be kept safe when doing their job and I’d like to thank them for their professionalism in the face of such disorder in our local community."

The use of illegal electric bikes was highlighted as a concern.

“It shouldn’t be forgotten that this incident began with the stopping of an illegal electric bike. The use of these vehicles poses a serious risk to the public and their continued antisocial use will not be tolerated," Chief Inspector Stables added.

Operation Armour is underway to tackle the illegal use of electric bikes and related criminal activities.

The public is encouraged to contact the police on 101 if they have any information that could assist in ongoing enquiries.
