Charlie Heaton rose to fame in the ubiquitous Netflix series Stranger Things. Performing as Will Byers' older brother Jonathan, his character went on a serious ride throughout the show, and became a huge fan favourite.

Since his casting announcement in the upcoming series of Peaky Blinders, fans have been desperate to know more about which character he'll be playing. So far, we've only known that Jamie Bell will be taking over the role of Tommy Shelby's son, Duke Shelby, from Barry Keoghan who portrayed the character in the film, The Immortal Man.

However, it's now been announced that Charlie will take on a very pivotal character - and it's one we've seen before.

Who is Charlie Heaton playing in Peaky Blinders?

Many fans were surprised by the omission of Tommy's son Charles from the film - save that fleeting glimpse towards the end - but it sounds as though this will be rectified, as Charlie will be playing the character of Charles in the series.

Charles is Tommy's legitimate son with his wife Grace Shelby, who was killed by an Italian associate who'd been attempting to kill Tommy for his part in the murder of Angel Changretta.

Announcing the news, the BBC wrote: 'Having fought a violent war, much of it behind enemy lines, Charles Shelby is now embracing normality. He hasn’t seen his half-brother Duke – played by Jamie Bell – in years. Charles severed all ties to the Peaky Blinders gang, and the hedonistic Shelby lifestyle. But can you ever escape your own blood?'

Fans were thrilled about the casting choice, and to hear that the character of Charles Shelby would be returning to the Peaky fray. One wrote: 'Ooohhh great choice for Charles,' while another added: 'Somehow he fits what i imagine charles to be . This photo alone gives the fitting vibe for me 👏.' (sic)

It's safe to say Charles was not super close to his dad Tommy, played by Cillian Murphy. His character's last appearance in the show was in the final episode of season six, where he opted to leave Tommy's home to go with his step-mum Lizzie.

He briefly appeared at the end of the film, played by Alfie Thomas Bland in a non-speaking role at Tommy's funeral.
