JADE reveals rare medical condition after becoming ‘sick of people commenting on weight’

Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall, or JADE as she now goes by, has opened up about a rare medical condition she suffers with.

The 'Angel Of My Dreams' hitmaker has left a comment on online campaigner Gemma Renwick’s video discussing a rare condition called Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction or R-CPD.

The medical condition prevents a person suffering from burping, can cause problems with vocal chords, and cause severe abdominal and chest bloating or pain.

After seeing Gemma's video, JADE wrote: 'Omg I finally feel so seen and understood. It’s always been a fun fact that I can’t burp but it’s caused issues my whole life and I’m sick of people commenting on my weight and body onstage when I’m just bloated af.' (sic)

The 33-year-old singer then expressed how she would like to get 'throtox', a treatment which includes having Botox inject into cricopharyngeus muscle, however, admitted she is 'worried' it will affect her vocals.

She added: 'I want to get the throtox but worried it will affect my vocals'.

Online campaigner Gemma Renwick set up a online petition earlier this year to review access to NHS treatment for Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction, also known as 'no burp syndrome'.

The petition, which is aiming for 10,000 signatures, states: 'We want the Government to review the adequacy of recognition of, and NHS treatment access for, people with Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction (R-CPD).

'We believe too many sufferers are dismissed or misdiagnosed before paying privately for treatment - patients deserve better awareness and NHS access to care.

'We want the Government to work towards improving recognition and NHS treatment access for Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction (R-CPD), a condition that prevents sufferers from being able to burp. R-CPD can cause severe bloating, pain and major impacts on daily life. We believe patients deserve better awareness, referral pathways and NHS access to treatment.'
