Popular game show Big Break set to return with new hosts Paddy McGuinness and Stephen Hendry
Applications are now open to take part
Last updated 12th May 2026
Big Break, the popular TV show that originally aired between 1991 and 2002, presented by Jim Davidson, with the late John Virgo, has been announced for a new series, with two new very well-known presenters.
The show, which will start production soon, has been described as 'an addictive mix of fast-paced snooker frames with a relaxed, comedic atmosphere', and will be hosted by Paddy McGuinness, with Stephen Hendry - along with professional snooker players, from around the world.
While the show says it will stay true to the original, it also has some additions. A description of the show reads: 'Seeing the show from every angle, home audiences will now be put on the table, behind the ball and into frame, getting up close and personal with the professionals, tapping into the deep well of snooker fandom which already exists online and on the BBC.
'While staying true to the spirit of the original show, audiences will see three contestants and their pros battle it out in three rounds of trick shots to reach the dramatic finale.'
The BBC announced the exciting news on social media, telling their followers: '🎱 It's official - Big Break is back!
'Paddy McGuinness and Stephen Hendry will be joined in studio by professional snooker players, from across the globe, straight off the competition circuit, in a bid to win their contestants the cash prize in the snooker-themed game show.'
Stephen responded to the announcement commenting: '👀 - I’m so excited to be a part of the new Big Break 🙌🏻'.
Meanwhile, a fan wrote: 'Can't wait for this, still watch reruns of the original series', and another said: 'Awesome! Looking forward to it 👍 I’m sure JV would approve 😊'.
Paddy McGuinness said of the announcement: "I am absolutely delighted to be a part of Big Break. It is one of those shows everyone knows and loves so to be hosting it alongside legend Stephen Hendry will be something special. Bring it on!"
Stephen Hendry added: "Big Break was a unique mix of trick shots and great entertainment and I can't wait to be back at the table and bringing this incredible show to a whole new audience and who knows, we might inspire the next generation of snooker players to get into the sport."
