Arrested man released after boy, three, injured in crocodile enclosure at zoo

A man has been released on bail after a three-year-old ended up in a crocodile enclosure at a zoo in Cambridgeshire.
Emergency services were called to Johnson’s of Old Hurst, in Huntingdonshire on Thursday afternoon and the young boy was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on bail as enquiries continue.
Police say the suspect, who was not known to the child, was deemed not fit for interview.
Zoo staff pulled the boy from the enclosure, providing medical treatment before he was taken to the hospital.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann stated: “Our enquiries are ongoing as we continue to understand the circumstances surrounding this distressing incident.
“Our thoughts remain with the boy, and his family and specialist officers continue to support them through this difficult time.”
In a statement on social media, Johnson’s said that “out of respect to the family” Tropical House will remain closed until further notice.
The 30-year-old man has been bailed until 18th September 2026.
