Harrogate-born Axel Brown has played a key role in helping Trinidad and Tobago's bobsleigh team achieve its goal of not finishing last in the Olympic two-man event in Cortina, Italy. The team secured the 25th position out of 26, ahead of Israel, with a total time of 2:51:05.

Brown, a 33-year-old athlete, has represented both Great Britain and Trinidad and Tobago in his career. He transitioned to compete for Trinidad and Tobago to honour his mother's heritage and now pilots the sled with brakeman De Aundre John.

In addition to his bobsleigh achievements, Brown has an extensive athletic history, including playing American Football for the Colorado State Rams, representing Great Britain in Taekwondo, and participating in the Great Britain Lions U18 Team.

Though the team did not advance to the final heat, they will compete in the four-man event later this week.

Germany dominated the men's two-man podium, with Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer winning gold, Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schuller taking silver, and Adam Ammour and Alexander Schaller claiming bronze.

Brown expressed that qualifying for the Games was a significant achievement for the team, likening it to winning a gold medal. His goal is to rejuvenate the bobsleigh program in Trinidad and Tobago, which last participated in the Winter Olympics in 2002.

The team's appearance at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics marked their first in two decades, achieving the highest ranking for Trinidad and Tobago at the Winter Games with a 28th place finish.
