Man injured in Derby gas explosion

A man's been taken to hospital following a suspected gas explosion in Derby.

A man is being treated in hospital following a suspected gas explosion on Eden Street, Derby, last night (10 June).

It happened around 7:24pm, with Eden Street, London Road, and Shardlow Road being closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said a dog was rescued overnight. It issued this update this morning: "Emergency services remain on scene this morning on Eden Street in Alvaston following a possible gas explosion which took place on Tuesday (10 June) evening.

"Two fire engines, a command support vehicle and officers remain supported by police, building control officers, emergency planning officers and representatives from utilities.

"One dog with some injuries was rescued overnight by search teams and has been passed into veterinary care.

"The investigation into the cause of the explosion will begin later today as crews continue to work to make the area safe.

"Eden Street will remain closed until further notice.

"London Road and Shardlow Road have now reopened.

There has been no update on the extent of the man's injuries.
