Football fans are eagerly anticipating the verdict from Drusillas Park's 'Mystic Meerkats,' as the famous animal pundits have forecasted a victory for England against DR Congo in the upcoming FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match.

Renowned for their successful track record in predicting previous tournament outcomes, the Sussex zoo's meerkats have returned just in time for the knockout stages.

During UEFA Euro 2024, they famously predicted every England result accurately, gaining them recognition as unlikely football forecasters.

England enters the competition's knockout stage undefeated, having topped Group L after victories over Croatia, a draw with Ghana, and a win against Panama, earning seven points.

Though England has faced scrutiny regarding whether they have fully reached their potential, they are considered favourites against DR Congo, according to both analysts and the meerkats.

The prediction involved presenting England and DR Congo flags over buckets filled with treats, which the meerkats examine before collectively choosing their preferred feast.

Despite initial fears when a meerkat inspected the DR Congo flag, the mob eventually charged towards the England selection, confidently affirming the predicted outcome.

Jamie Fryer, Deputy Head Keeper at Drusillas Park, expressed enthusiasm for the meerkats' role, stating:

"The meerkats have built up quite a reputation over the last few tournaments, so we thought it was only right to bring them back for the World Cup knockout stages."

"They certainly kept us guessing this time. One brave meerkat wandered over to the DR Congo bucket first and had us wondering whether an upset was on the cards, but the rest of the group had other ideas and made a beeline for England. In the end it wasn't even close."

Fryer also acknowledged England's strengths, adding:

"England have looked solid so far in the tournament. They might not have been at their best in every game, but they've got through the group unbeaten and have players who can change a match in an instant. If our meerkats are right, there could be an early scare for the fans before England settle down and book their place in the next round."

The meerkats provide entertainment as part of a zoo enrichment programme designed to encourage natural behaviours and problem-solving skills.

With England set to play DR Congo, all eyes are on the predictions from Drusillas' Mystic Meerkats, as fans anticipate another stride towards World Cup victory.
