A woman who died after a collision between a car and a tipper van on the A96 between Inverness and Nairn has been named.

Alison Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash at around 3.30pm on Tuesday about a mile east of the airport roundabout.

The 65-year-old was a passenger in a red Vauxhall Insignia when it was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit Tipper van.

The driver of the car, a 69-year-old man, was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where medical staff described his condition as critical.

The driver of the van was uninjured.

Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: "Our thoughts are with Alison's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing. I'd like to thank everyone who has provided information so far and ask anyone else who saw what happened or has dashcam footage to come forward."
