Wide spread travel disruption is expected on Saturday evening into Sunday, as Storm Boelo batters Scotland.

Rail

Rail services between Kilwinning and Ayr/Adrossan will be off from 9pm, as a Met Office Amber weather warning comes into force, while the route between Crianlarich, Oban and Fort William will shut at 10pm.

Trains are off between Kilmarnock and Carlisle, with flooding closing the line around Kirkconnel and Sanquhar on Saturday afternoon.

Elsewhere, subsidence near the tracks have seen trains through Gorebridge cancelled, and LNER has advised passengers not to travel between Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Ferries

Major disruption is expected on the ferries too, with nearly all CalMac sailings off for the rest of Saturday.

There will be no StenaLine crossings between Cairnryan and Belfast until at least 15:30 on Sunday 25 October.

Winds of up to 70mph are expected across the country, following heavy rain brought by Storm Austin on Friday.

Roads

Transport Scotland have urged travellers to check their journeys ahead, and allow for extra time, as speed restrictions remain in place for rail, and drivers are encouraged to take it slow.

The message came as the Scottish Environment and Protection Agency (SEPA) announced 17 flood warnings in place in coastal areas.

Flights

Meanwhile flights due at Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen Airports from London Heathrow have been cancelled for the remainder of Saturday 24 October.
