Tony Docherty named as new Ross County boss
The former Dundee manager comes in to replace Don Cowie and lead attempt for immediate return to the Premiership
Ross County have named Tony Docherty as their new manager.
And he will be tasked with immediately turning the club’s fortunes around quickly after a disappointing start to the season in the Championship after last season’s relegation.
County have just two points from their first four matches – the poor start costing Don Cowie his job – with John Robertson taking temporary charge in last weekend's 2-2 draw at Dunfermline.
Docherty was sacked by Dundee in the summer after avoiding the play-off where Country landed and lost to Livingston.
The previous season he led the Dees to the top six having been a stalwart lieutenant to Derek McInnes at Aberdeen.
His first game in charge is against Arbroath in Dingwall next Saturday.
Chief Executive Steven Ferguson said: “We are thrilled to welcome Tony Docherty to Ross County.
"He brings with him not only a wealth of experience and proven leadership but also a clear alignment with our club values and long-term vision.
"His commitment to embedding himself within our club and community gives us great confidence as we work together to secure our place back in the Scottish Premiership.
"We were hugely encouraged by the quality of applications we received during the process, and we would like to thank all those who expressed interest in leading our club.
"Today, however, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter under Tony Docherty".
The Club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to John Robertson, who stepped into the role on a temporary basis with professionalism and commitment.
