Seven people taken to hospital after A96 crash

Seven people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A96.

Emergency services were called out to the scene of the multi vehicle collision, just north of Huntly, at around 7am this morning.

Five people were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, two of them by air ambulance, while another two were taken to Doctor Gray's in Elgin.

The road is currently closed in both directions, diversions are in place.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service detailed their response to the incident.

They said: "We received a call at 06:54 to attend a three-car road traffic collision on the A96, north of Huntly.

"Five ambulances, an air ambulance and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.

"Five patients were transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary – two by air ambulance – and two patients were transported to Dr Gray’s Hospital.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson added: "We were alerted at 6.55am on Wednesday, 9 September, to reports of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the A96 near the Portsoy junction (B9022 turnoff) near Huntly.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised four appliances and heavy rescue to the scene.

“Crews stabilised vehicles and assisted the Scottish Ambulance Service with seven casualties.

“Crews left the scene at 8.51am after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The A96 is closed in both directions at Huntly due to a crash which officers were called to around 6.55am on Wednesday, 9 September, 2026.

"Motorists are advised to use another route."

Traffic Scotland has advised those travelling north on the A96 to exit via the A97, while those travelling towards Aberdeen are advised to exit the A96 at Keith, onto the A95 junction.
