The controversial Belfast band Kneecap has been axed from TRNSMT festival in Glasgow in July after footage was shared where they appeared to tell a crowd to "kill your local MP".

The First Minister John Swinney has previously backed calls for organisers to remove them from the lineup on July 11.

The trio has since apologised to the families of murdered MPs Sir David Amess and Jo Cox.

A statement on the band's Facebook page read: "Due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event, Kneecap can no longer perform at TRNSMT"

To the thousands of people who bought tickets, flights and hotels to see us play, we are sorry...it is out of our hands.

Glasgow has always been a huge city for us. We’ve played there many many times, with no issues - ever. Make of that what you will."

The band will instead perform at the O2 Academy in the city on July 8.
