Inverness Royal Academy evacuated after 'safety threat' received

Students due to sit an exam today have been moved to a separate location

One of the largest secondary schools in the Highlands has evacuated after a safety threat.

Inverness Royal Academy received the threat through their generic email and police attended the school earlier today.

S1-S3 pupils have been sent home while S4-S6 are at a different location.

Students sitting an exam today have been moved to a separate site.

Highland Council have outlined their staff and pupils is their "top priority" and the evacuation was carried out as a precaution.

A spokesperson said: "This morning, Inverness Royal Academy received a safety threat via the school's generic email.

"Police were contacted and are in attendance.

"The safety of our staff and pupils is our top priority and the school has been evacuated as a precaution. S1-S3 pupils have been sent home, and S4-6 pupils have been moved to an alternative location.

"We have some pupils sitting exams today, and they have been moved to a separate site.”

According to the 2026 exam timetable available on the Qualifications Scotland website, geography exams are scheduled to take place today.

This includes levels National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

Inverness Royal Academy posted on their on Facebook outlining how the Culduthel Christian Centre was being used.

They said: "S5 and S6 pupils who had an exam this morning were moved to the Culdulthel Christian Centre (CCC).

"We would like to thank the staff and community at the CCC for their support.

The school is now open for pupils sitting their National 5 Geography and Cruinn-eolas exams only, and it will reopen to all pupils as normal tomorrow.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
