A senior police officer says the man who killed a talented musician "will now face the consequences of his actions."

Waldemar Jaronski pleaded guilty to the murder of 32-year-old Iain MacFarlane at the High Court in Glasgow earlier today.

The 52-year-old struck Iain, who let Jaronski stay at his Inverness home, with a glass bottle before choking him last December.

Iain was pronounced dead at the scene at his home on December 4th, as Jaronski was arrested by officers on the same day and later charged.

Detective Inspector Graham Gordon has outlined how Police Scotland's thoughts remain with Iain's family and friends.

He said: “Iain's family and friends have suffered an unimaginable loss and our thoughts remain with them as they continue to come to terms with his death.

“His death was a tragic and senseless loss of life, and the circumstances surrounding it make that loss all the more difficult to comprehend.

“While nothing can change what happened or ease the pain felt by those who knew and loved him, I hope this verdict provides them with some measure of justice.

“Jaronski has now been held accountable and will now face the consequences of his actions."
