Officials at NHS Highland have said that they have discovered a potential risk of contamination to the hot water supply at Raigmore Hospital.

It was identified during routine maintenance and impacts the supply in the tower block of the Inverness facility.

A statement said that "appropriate disinfection measures" have taken place but they will carry out a programme of testing and verification for further assurance.

However, until that testing is complete, additional processes such as water filtering and flushing will be put in place as a precautionary measure.

NHS Highland has also said that it "takes the safety of our patients and staff very seriously and have taken expert advice throughout the process".

The Health Board hoped that their actions have been sufficient to reduce any residual risk to patients and staff.
