Two 'raving' chickens rescued from Creamfields music festival

Two chickens were rescued by the RSPCA after being trapped in a hedge at the Creamfields site in Cheshire.

Festival-goers discovered the cockerel and hen winging it along a hedge line, blocked by a wire fence at the Daresbury Estate during the 4-day dance event.

RSPCA Inspector Leanne Cooper responded to a call for assistance and, with help from one of the discoverers, successfully guided the birds out of the hedge using her rescue net.

Leanne Cooper remarked, "I was surprised that they were inside the festival site and I needed to get through the roadblocks and security before reaching them on foot through muddy fields."

She expressed gratitude for the help provided by the festival-goer who spotted the birds and alerted the RSPCA to their situation.

The chickens, who are believed to have strayed from nearby farmland, were found to be underweight, having endured several days at the festival foraging.

A report of a third bird was made, but searches were unable to locate it.

The rescued raving chickens are now recovering at RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre. The cockerel bears distinctive black and orange plumage, while the hen is adorned with white feathers.

The RSPCA has initiated an appeal to identify their owner, calling on anyone with information to contact them at 0300 1238018 and quote reference number 01892547.
