Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a young woman in Leeds.

Police were called to Kennerleigh Avenue, Austhorpe at 5.55am today after reports of a young woman found unconscious in the street.

She was discovered with serious injuries and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The woman's identity remains unknown, and efforts are underway to identify her and notify her next of kin.

Her description has been released in hopes that it may be recognised: she is of slim build, with tanned skin, standing 5ft 2ins tall, and believed to be in her mid to late teens.

She has green eyes, brown hair with darker roots and blonde ends, and wears fixed metal braces on her teeth.

Four people - two 18-year-old women, a 20-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy - were arrested on suspicion of murder from a nearby address and are currently in police custody.

Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: "This is an extremely complex investigation where a young woman has sadly lost her life."

He stated, "We are treating her death as murder and have arrested four people in connection with it."

Bowes also expressed a desire to identify the victim: "Despite carrying out extensive enquiries throughout the course of today we have not yet been able to confirm her identity."

He added the hope that releasing her description would lead someone to recognise her and come forward.

Bowes appealed to anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area early this morning or witnessed any suspicious activity to contact the police.
