Met Police granted additional powers for remainder of Notting Hill Carnival
A Section 60 has been put in place for today and tomorrow's festivities
Police in London have been granted extra powers for today's Notting Hill Carnival festivities.
From 10am, until 2am on Monday morning, a Section 60 has been enacted. It means officers can search people in specified areas for weapons or dangerous items, without needing to have reasonable suspicion.
A Section 60, Section 60AA search powers and a Section 35 dispersal order are now all in place.
They hope to prevent violence and disorder.
It's been added to a host of action taken by the Met ahead of the Carnival, and throughout the weekend, which aims to enhance safety for the hundreds of thousands of spectators in attendance.
The Section 60 also enables officers to ask people to remove face coverings, when being warn with the main purpose of concealing an identity.
Those who refuse to remove them could be arrested.
The order is also being enacted tomorrow, from 10am on Monday, until 2am on Tuesday morning.
