What happened?

Officers were called to the school on Plant Hill Road, Blackley, on the morning of Tuesday 9th June following reports of a stabbing.

Police said staff acted quickly to detain a girl before officers arrived at the scene.

A 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The three injured people have all been discharged from hospital after being assessed.

Police warning over social media posts

Greater Manchester Police said officers are aware of names linked to the case being circulated online.

City of Manchester North Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock said: “Our investigation has continued at pace since yesterday morning when we were first made aware of the incident. Our thoughts are with those that were injured and were caught up in the incident. Whilst the physical injuries were not believed to be serious, we know the impact to those that were involved or were witnesses to this will be significant, and we want to reassure our community we are taking this very seriously.

“As our investigation progresses, we are aware that names relating to the incident are being circulated on social media which are unhelpful for the investigation. This is also causing concern with the victims and those that have been impacted therefore we would stress that people do not speculate regarding this incident.

“Officers will remain in and around the area to provide support to ensure staff, students and the wider community feel safe. If you have any concerns, please speak to our officers who are there to support you.”

Police remain in the area

Police said officers will remain in and around Blackley while the investigation continues.

They said the additional presence is intended to support staff, pupils and the wider community.
