Massive fire at Folkestone Grand Burstin Hotel prompts large-scale emergency response
Crews battle blaze with 26 fire engines and support from partner agencies

An extensive fire has engulfed the Grand Burstin Hotel in The Harbour, Folkestone, triggering a major emergency response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
The incident, reported on 19th September, involved 26 fire engines and a height vehicle at its peak, with personnel using breathing apparatus and firefighting hoses to tackle the basement-originated blaze.
Currently, 15 fire engines and the height vehicle remain on-site as firefighters continue to make progress in controlling the situation.
The building has been fully evacuated with assistance from Folkestone and Hythe District Council, providing evacuees refuge at a welfare centre.
A spokesperson for Britannia Hotels Group said:
“We can confirm there has been an incident at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone and we are taking immediate action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all guests and team members.
“Emergency services are on site and we are fully cooperating with the authorities to support those affected and assist with the ongoing response.”
Kent Police are managing traffic control, while the KFRS Volunteer Response Team offers support and guidance to those affected.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and Rapid Response Team volunteers are also collaborating in the comprehensive emergency efforts.
A spokesperson said:
"We were called just after 1.30 this morning following reports of a fire at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone.
"We sent a number of resources to the scene including our specialist Hazardous Area Response Team.
"We assessed a number of guests and took one person to the William Harvey Hospital with minor injuries."
Authorities advise nearby residents to close windows, avoid the area, and follow emergency service instructions, ensuring clear road access for ongoing operations.
