Search launched for 13-year-old boy off coast of Hornsea
Extensive search operation underway in South Promenade area
A significant search and rescue operation is currently underway in Hornsea following reports of a concern for the safety of a 13-year-old boy.
Emergency services, including the HM Coastguard, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and Humberside Fire and Rescue Services, have joined Humberside Police in the search efforts at the South Promenade area.
According to Chief Superintendent Phil Booker, the emergency services were immediately deployed around 6pm on Tuesday, 4th August 2026, after it was reported that the boy had gotten into difficulty while swimming.
"Our priority now is to find the boy," Chief Superintendent Booker said.
Members of the public should expect to see Police Search Advisors (POLSA), the Marine Unit, and drone pilots involved in the extensive search effort.
The public is urged to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate efficiently and safely. Speculation on the circumstances is discouraged.
