Arsenal and Man City prepare for Wembley showpiece EFL Cup final
Arsenal and Manchester City compete in the Carabao Cup final later today.
The two sides are competing in the league with the Gunners holding a clear advantage, as they are nine points clear.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insisted his side are ready to “attack the trophy and bring it home”
The Gunners will bid to end their six-year trophy drought when they tackle Pep Guardiola’s City at Wembley Stadium.
Arsenal last won silverware at the 2020 FA Cup final – the sole prize of Arteta’s tenure so far – but the Spaniard’s side could yet end the season with a remarkable four trophies.
And looking ahead to Sunday’s showpiece, Arteta said: “I’m really prepared and confident that we’re going to make it happen.
“It’s one of the defining moments because at the end it’s whether you win the trophy or not. We need to prove that point. That’s clear. And that has to be done on the pitch.”
Man City are looking to bounce back from a disappointing week where a draw at West Ham was followed by being eliminated from the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola downplayed the idea that victory on Sunday could have a psychological impact on the title race.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I’ve said before, of course winning helps but we could win on Sunday and then be bad in the league and go (in) the opposite (direction).
“I’ve learned that in many competitions, with many games with a short recovery time, you have to have the ability to forget and move forwards in good and bad moments. Learn what you have to do better.”
