A 16 year old boy has been arrested after another teenager was allegedly hurt in an attack involving a machete at the Merry Hill centre in Dudley.

A 17 year old boy needed medical treatment for a small cut to his back on Friday afternoon.

Police believe the injury was caused by a machete.

They say a number of calls were made from members of the public who were in the centre at the time, at around 3.30pm.

Extra officers will be patrolling the area to reassure shoppers while detectives ask for anyone with information, mobile phone footage, or people who saw what happened to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Lucy Kirwan, of Dudley Police, said:

"We know the fear and alarm that this attack has caused, especially as it took place on a busy shopping day.

"It’s clearly completely unacceptable, and we are working through CCTV and gathering other witness statements as we work to identify all of those involved."

The 16 year old is being held on suspicion of wounding with intent.
