Thetford calm after three nights of disorder as increased police powers introduced
Police report a largely peaceful night but increased measures are in place for the weekend

Norfolk Police have confirmed that Friday night in Thetford was mostly peaceful following three consecutive nights of disturbances.
Authorities were deployed throughout the town to collaborate with local community leaders and ensure public safety.
Although a window was damaged on Elm Road and several arrests were made, the majority of the residents adhered to guidelines and contributed to maintaining order.
A man in his 20s was arrested for breaching a section 35 order, issued on Thursday, directing individuals to leave areas to prevent further disorder.
Another man of similar age faced arrest on suspicion of drug driving.
Both were released under investigation after being questioned at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.
Additionally, a third man, aged in his 40s, was apprehended for breach of the peace but was subsequently released.
Police issued four Section 35 notices during the evening.
Police Engagement and Community Cooperation
Deputy Chief Constable Dave Marshall expressed his gratitude to the community for their role in maintaining calm after previous disturbances.
Marshall appreciated the efforts of local residents, businesses, and community leaders, citing the collective effort in preserving order.
Officers have been working intensely throughout the week to safeguard individuals and properties, he stated.
Marshall confirmed their commitment to uphold orderly protests, yet warned of decisive measures against any form of criminal activity.
Increased Policing Measures
Further policing measures will be implemented from 4pm Saturday 8th August till 6am Sunday 9th August.
These include asking individuals to remove face coverings under Section 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
Officers can also direct individuals involved in potential anti-social behaviour to vacate areas under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
Refusal to comply may result in arrest.
These powers aim to maintain safety and are confined to specific areas designated on a map provided by the police.
