Mother and daughter confirmed as victims in Mersea Island incident
Emergency crews rushed to the site yesterday evening
Police have confirmed a woman and a teenage girl who died after getting into difficulty in the water on Mersea Island were mother and daughter from London.
The pair were found on the beach near Seaview Avenue after emergency services were called at 5.35pm on 22nd July but were unable to save 15-year-old girl and 41-year-old woman.
Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher expressed condolences, stating, "My thoughts, and those of my team, are with the friends and family of the woman and girl who died yesterday."
The investigation suggests the pair were attempting to assist a seven-year-old boy who encountered trouble, resulting in their tragic passing.
The boy remains in critical condition in hospital, and all involved individuals were related.
"Our investigation involves gathering witness statements and understanding the events surrounding the tragedy," Pitcher said, encouraging anyone with information to aid the investigation.
Tribute was paid to the first responders who endeavoured to save the lives of those involved.
The family has requested privacy during this time.
