Lincolnshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the A1 northbound lane at South Witham that resulted in the death of a 52-year-old woman.
The incident occurred at 9.35pm on Saturday, 9th May 2026, involving at least one vehicle—a grey Seat Leon—and a pedestrian.
Despite efforts by emergency services, the woman sadly died at the scene, as did her large dog.
Her family has been informed and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Reports indicate the woman, accompanied by a man and their dog, had left their Vauxhall Corsa parked in a layby on the A1 southbound lane near the Fox Inn and made their way to the northbound lane before the collision.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident: a 24-year-old man suspected of causing death by careless driving and a 58-year-old man suspected of murder.
Both remain in police custody.
Police say they are investigating the circumstances, including the duration they were on the northbound side.
Officers are urging motorists who travelled southbound or northbound in the area to recall any relevant observations related to the collision's lead-up or occurrence.
They’re encouraging witnesses to come forward, who noticed a broken-down black Vauxhall Corsa in the layby near the Fox Inn or any pedestrians and a dog between 3.40pm and 9.35pm on the A1 at South Witham.
The force said: “This is an ongoing active investigation and we ask people not to speculate as to the circumstances; this is unhelpful to all involved, especially family and friends of the victim.”
