Amanda Knox's Fringe show goes ahead despite backlash
A petition to get her comedy show cancelled reached more than twenty five thousand signatures
Amanda Knox's comedy show about her life has gone ahead, despite calls for Edinburgh Festival Fringe organisers to cancel it.
The American was convicted, but later acquitted, of British student Meredith Kercher's killing in Italy in 2007. Ms Kercher's family have criticised the show proceeding and her sister has claimed it "trivialises violence against women".
A petition was also launched calling for the eleven night run to be cancelled, it has received more than twenty five thousand signatures.
Despite the backlash, patrons who attended the show's premiere on Friday night have described it as "profoundly respectful" with "very feminist viewpoints".
Ms Knox has defended her show, Cartwheel, which she said "honours Meredith Kercher’s memory and calls out the violence that was done to her and to me".
Tickets for Cartwheel are already sold out. It's being performed at Gilded Balloon Teviot until Monday the 17th of June.
