Magic Classical’s Jack Pepper performs for HM The King: Find out more here
Jack's ‘Harmony’ song has world premiere at The King's Foundation Awards
We’re absolutely thrilled here at Magic Classical for our Jack Pepper on performing in the presence of HM King Charles. Jack, who hosts Magic Classical weekend afternoons, has recently been named as the only composer of The King’s Foundation’s 35 under 35, and has written the music and lyrics for Harmony – a song for youth choir – that reflects The King’s philosophy of Harmony.
Harmony received its first performance at The King’s Foundation Awards at St James’s Palace and was the first time new music has been premiered at the Awards, with His Majesty’s environmental philosophy being interpreted through song. Jack sang at the piano, joined by members of the London Youth Choirs and the Duchess of Edinburgh's String Orchestra and the Royal Corps of Army Music.
You can listen here when Jack joined Tim Smith on Magic Classical to share just what it was like to perform his own composition in front of King Charles: ‘For me to hear it all come together is quite joyous - to hear other people singing and to have his Majesty the King stood next to the piano… I was told it was to be intimate but I wasn't expecting it to be that informal... The King was literally at the end of the keyboard. To be that close and personal was hugely, hugely special.'
Jack commented: 'Musical language runs through much of His Majesty's environmental philosophy. Harmony is the title of his 2010 book and the theme underpinning the Foundation’s work; it states that by understanding the balance, order and relationships between us and the natural world, we can create a more sustainable future. These principles of Harmony resonate equally with music as with the environment and sustainability. Music and musicians can be a potent way of helping express this environmental philosophy. My song, an anthem, is a celebration of who we are, what we have and what we can be, as much as a call to action.'
The King’s Foundation’s 35 under 35 makers and changemakers is a network of engaged individuals who can work together and exchange knowledge across their diverse disciplines into the future, in line with The King’s philosophy of Harmony.
