A 21 year-old man remains in a stable but critical condition in hospital after being shot in Urmston town centre on Friday night.

Police were called to Higher Road at around 8.42pm on Friday 16th January following reports of gunfire.

One person was treated at the scene by paramedics for serious injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage which could help with their investigation to come forwards.

Chief Inspector Darren Lomas said: "We believe this to be a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public – thankfully incidents of this nature are increasingly rare in Greater Manchester.

"There have been extra patrols in the area and this will continue through the weekend and into next week."

The force says since 2023 they have taken 168 firearms off the streets of Greater Manchester and as a result of that work, there's been a 59% decrease in discharges over the past year compared to 2021.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the shooting in Urmston and police want to hear from anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage which could help them.
