People in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, have told us they are devastated by the news of a teenager dying in Powell's Pool at Sutton Park.

His body was recovered during searches in Sutton Park last night after he was reported missing shortly after 6pm.

One man said: "It's the kind of news you don't really want to hear. Ever. Obviously, such a young age and it's so sad that it's happened on our doorstep."

"I know from my own experience - I lost a son three years ago - it's really difficult for me to, sort of, even comprehend how I feel and how the family must feel right now."

"When the weather's like this, there's no more beautiful a place to bring him his dog, but now it's going to have, sort of, damp thoughts and memories. My heart just goes out to the family."

One woman told us she was in the lake herself the other day: "Because the sun's out on the water all day, you'd think it was quite warm, but the further you go out, it's quite cold. It takes your breath a bit, really.

"It's a shame, really. I feel for his family and all his little friends who were with him yesterday. It's horrific."

Another man told us: "It's terrible news. I know with the weather that we've been having recently, people are going to be attracted to the water."

Police say they are not treating his death as suspicious at this time.
