Severe delays on M5 after serious crash and discovery of body

Police were called to the southbound carriageway just before 10am this morning

An investigation is underway after a body was found on the M5 motorway at Oldbury near Birmingham.

West Midlands Police have confirmed the discovery was made just before 10am this morning.

The full details as to what happened remain unknown, but the southbound side was closed for a time between junctions three for Quinton and two for Oldbury.

A closure on the northbound carriageway in connection with the incident remains in place between junction three for Quinton and the M6.

Emergency services have also been dealing with a separate crash on the northbound side between junction 1 for West Bromwich and the M6, which left two motorcyclists seriously injured.

National Highways says there are still significant delays on and around the motorway.

West Midlands Police are urging drivers to avoid the area.
