Man dies after emergency services called to Cornish beach

A man has died after emergency services were called out to reports of two people in trouble in the water at Mawgan Porth Beach.

They were called out just before 8:30pm last night (29 July).

Police say the man, who was in his 40s and from Oxfordshire, was recovered from the water - and despite getting medical treatment, he died at the scene.

One other man also received minor injuries.

A file is being prepared for the coroner, and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police told us: "Police were called at around 8.20pm to Mawgan Porth beach on Tuesday 29 July following reports of concern for two people in the water.

"One man sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.

"A second man was recovered by the and given emergency medical treatment by Ambulance and Coastguard teams. Sadly, the man in his 40s, from Oxfordshire, was confirmed deceased at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
