Marvin Humes reveals the sneaky way his daughter discovered he was on The Masked Singer
Marvin was unmasked as Can of Worms!
Last updated 4 hours ago
The Masked Singer's Can of Worms was unmasked on Saturday 7th February as JLS star and KISSTORY host Marvin Humes — but it's the reaction of his youngest two children which has most floored fans!
Marvin shared a video on social media at the weekend, which showed Blake and Valentina discover their dad was hiding behind the quirky character's costume, and their reaction was nothing short of adorable.
Alongside the video, Marvin wrote: 'The can is open!!! Surprise!!! Finally the worm is out the can!!! What a show! Absolutely loved it! For the kids reaction alone!! 🥫🪱'.
Marvin joined Hits Radio Breakfast, where he told the team about his kids' reactions, speaking about five-year-old Blake in particular, he recounted: "He screamed so high that he sounded like a firework, and then he just burst into tears, I think he was just so overwhelmed. You know, we're genuine fans of the show, watch it every week and I think for his little five-year-old mind, it must be mad to, you know, see me being unmasked.
“And he literally looked to his left to check that I was still in the room. And you know, yeah, he was blown away. And you know, the first thing he says, well, I can't wait to tell my teacher at school.
“So I had to send a video to his teacher yesterday so that they could do show and tell. And he's like, you don't care about the fact that I'm in JLS. He's like, my dad was a worm on The Masked Singer!”
Marvin also joined This Morning on Monday 9th February, where he told the hosts: "Honestly the reaction (to the reveal) was unbelievable. As you saw just there, he actually burst into tears."
He went on to say: "We tried to throw the kids off a little bit by trying to push him towards JB."
It follows his performance of 'Cha Cha Slide' by DJ Casper and 'Ordinary People' by John Legend, which left the judges on their feet, saying "What a great party atmosphere" he created.
After the masked celebrity's performance on Saturday 17th January, fans flooded the comments on social media to make their guess at who it could be, with most pointing to Marvin.
After he sang 'Ghostbusters' by Ray Parker Jnr., and dropped more clues about his identity, viewers were 'convinced' it was the JLS star. One fan wrote 'if you listen to the opening song it is absolutely him', while another declared '100% Marvin Humes'. It follows the judges guesses of Jamie Oliver, Naughty Boy and Drake.
It wasn't just the recognisable voice that led fans to Marvin, some of the clues REALLY pointed towards him too. As many will know, Marvin's signature JLS colour was green — and this colour was referenced numerous times throughout the clue package.
We also saw framed photos of Top Gear's James May and Richard Hammond. It was no coincidence that their surnames spell out M and H!
And of course, there's the costume. Was that in reference to the nasty Bushtucker Trials the KISSTORY presenter had to endure in the I'm a Celeb jungle?
Why did Marvin choose Can of Worms?
Chatting to Hits Radio Breakfast, Marvin explained why he chose the unusual outfit, telling how there wasn't much to choose from! "I did get a choice," he explaiend.
"I was one of the last to be cast on the show. There was a couple of other options, but they were really restricted. It was just the 'funnest' costume that was left."
Who knew he was on The Masked Singer?
Marvin opened up about the secrecy of The Masked Singer and who knew about his involvement on the show. The singer told Hits Radio how his oldest daughter found out, by tracking his phone!
Along with his wife Rochelle, Marvin admitted: "My eldest daughter knew, because we've got each other on Live 360 on our phones," an app which allows them to track each other.
Marvin went on to explain how on the first day of filming, she called and asked why he was at ITV Studios Bovingdon.
Put on the spot, Marvin told her that he was filming with JLS, but then after a few days she'd done some research and confronted him.
The JLS singer explained: "She said, ‘Daddy, you're filming The Masked Singer’, because she Googled, 'What TV shows are filmed at ITV Bovingdon?' It's only Dancing on Ice or The Masked Singer, and Dancing on Ice had just been on TV, so she's like... she's a genius, yeah."
Who is in the final?
This year's finalists are Conkers, Toastie and Moth, but while even the participants on The Masked Singer don't know who else is involved, Marvin says he has a good idea over who the finalists actually are. In his chat with Hits Radio, he said: "One of them I recognised the singing voice, one of them I recognised their speaking voice... I'll be very careful what I say here now.
"And the irony of Saturday night is that one of the characters, Conkers, actually sang JLS, ‘Everybody in Love’, whilst I'm there and obviously they beat me and they got to the final so imagine I went out to a JLS song. Which was mad!"
Marvin continued: "But yeah, you're going to be very, very shocked when you see who Conkers is actually."
The Masked Singer final airs on ITV this Saturday (14th February) at 7pm.
