Two children injured after Maryport collision involving police vehicle

A child is in hospital with serious injuries after a collision on Senhouse Street, Maryport involving a police vehicle.

The incident occurred around 6pm and involved the car and two pedestrians, children of secondary school age.

The other victim suffered minor injuries and has now been discharged from hospital.

Cumbria police have confirmed "The circumstances of the collision are being fully investigated, and the incident was immediately referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is standard practice."

Superintendent Sarah Jones, Cumbria Constabulary said: “Our thoughts are with the two young people involved in this incident and their families.

“Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries to fully understand the circumstances, and we would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
