A man has been given a life sentence after stabbing a female probation officer during an appointment in Preston.

35-year-old Ryan Gee attacked the woman with a large kitchen knife at the Pavilions on Ashton-on-Ribble last July, leaving her with serious injuries.

The court heard how Gee had gone to the probation office for a routine meeting as he was on supervision after a previous sentence.

Whilst there he pulled out a large kitchen knife and stabbed the probation officer, a woman in her 30s, several times.

Gee stabbed her in the shoulder, stomach and armpit, chasing her out the room.

He also threatened the receptionist with a replica handgun after locking himself in the room with her following the stabbing.

The victim was taken to hospital for emergency surgery and survived.

Gee was arrested at the scene after being tasered, despite telling officers ‘You’re going to have to shoot me’.

He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to:

  • attempted murder
  • false imprisonment
  • possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
  • two offences of possession of a bladed article and threatening a person with an offensive weapon

He has now been jailed for life with a minimum of 15 years and 193 days before he can be considered for release.

If granted parole, Gee would be on licence for the rest of his life.

Lancashire police say the attack was vicious and praise staff and officers for their quick actions and bravery.
