Man in hospital with serious injuries after gun fired at car in Bristol

Officers say the man, who’s in his twenties, was hit on Speedwell Road, as police hunt for the suspect

A man in his 20s is in hospital with a potentially life-changing injury after a gun was fired at a car in the Speedwell area of Bristol this afternoon.

Officers say the man, who’s in his twenties, was hit when a gun was fired at a car on Speedwell Road shortly before 2pm.

No other injuries have been reported.

The suspect, described as white, in his late teens or early twenties, slim, and approximately 6ft tall, was seen fleeing the scene towards Soundwell on a black and grey electric bike.

He was wearing a grey hoodie, black trousers, and a balaclava.

Officers have set up a cordon along Speedwell Road, with forensics working at the scene and a helicopter circling above to try and find the suspect.

Chief Inspector James Clements said, "I know this incident will be incredibly concerning, however we are deploying significant resources, including a National Police Air Service helicopter and our specially-trained firearms officers, as we work to locate the person responsible."

He added, "The victim has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for an injury that’s potentially life-changing, but not believed to be life-threatening. His family have been informed and will be kept updated as our investigation progresses."

A significant police presence is expected in the area over the coming days, with neighbourhood officers conducting extra patrols.

In connection to the investigation, Charlton Road is closed between Speedwell Road and New Queen Street, and a police cordon is in place with forensic teams working at the scene.
