Concrete walls with original Banksy artwork to be craned into gallery garden
A brand new Banksy piece will have its world debut as part of the exhibition
Two concrete walls with the original Banksy artwork are to be craned into a gallery garden ahead of the world debut of a new piece by the artist.
The multi-ton walls feature Banksy’s Hula Hoop Girl and Sandcastle Boy, and will be installed into The Minories Gallery garden in Colchester on Friday as part of a new exhibition, Out of Line: Banksy and the Art of Dissent.
The installation comes ahead of the grand unveiling of a brand new Banksy piece titled, Rat with Drill.
It is among the 28 authentic Banksy pieces that will go on display from Saturday along with work from global contemporary and street artists including French graffiti artist Blek le Rat and US artist and designer KAWS.
Banksy, whose real name has never been officially confirmed, has become famous across the world for politically-charged murals, including 2002’s Girl With Balloon, 2003’s Love Is In The Air, and 2004’s Kissing Coppers.
More recently, he claimed a statue which appeared in April in central London depicting a man carrying a flag covering his face in Waterloo Place near Trafalgar Square.
He was also behind a mural that was painted on the Royal Courts of Justice in September last year which depicted a protester lying on the ground holding a blood-spattered placard while a judge, in a wig and gown, loomed over him, wielding a gavel.
Out of Line: Banksy and the Art of Dissent will run from October 10 until February 28.
