Almost half of people who have bought tickets for Download Festival 2025 are first-time attendees, according to new data.

Industry bible Music Week has quoted Ticketmaster data, which shows that 44% of people who have snapped up tickets will be stepping onto the hallowed turf of Donington Park for the first time.

Just factoring in the ticket buyers themselves (other people in their group may have attended before so the data could be skewed), this makes for an almost even split between newcomers and Download regulars.

The bill at this year’s Download Festival is topped by three first time headliners – Green Day (Friday), Sleep Token (Saturday) and Korn (Sunday).

The crowd at Download Festival 2025

Speaking to NME last November, Download booker Andy Copping said the event had to evolve to survive.

Copping said: “The festival has to evolve because people’s tastes and people’s expectations evolve all the time. The festival will die if we don’t move with the times, so we have to be innovative.

“We have to see what’s going on across social media and analyse the way people are consuming music in the TikTok age.”

He continued: “All of that is super important. Luckily, we’ve put together a very wide and varied young team who are giving input into what they feel the festival should be.

“We also talk to the fans all the time and ask them what they want to see. We seek out feedback on what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong. From that, we’ve found a formula that’s been working for us.”

Other artists on the Download Festival weekend bill include Vengaboys, Shinedown, Myles Kennedy, Opeth, Dirty Honey, Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, Steel Panther, Airborne, Apocalyptica, Within Temptation, Eagles Of Death Metal, Jerry Cantrell, Sophie Lloyd, The Darkness and many more.

Tickets had a download code on them so fans could get tracks by some of the bands performing.
