Watch: Chris Hemsworth gets drum lessons from Parkway Drive to play with Ed Sheeran

When Chris Hemsworth was set the challenge of drumming with Ed Sheeran’s band at short notice in front of 70,000 fans, he turned to Parkway Drive for help.

The pairing is perhaps not as strange as it first appears. Hemsworth is a metal fan who has spoken about Metallica’s ‘Black Album’ being the first record he owned.

A feature in Esquire also talked about watching him spar with a pal to a soundtrack of Pantera.

Add the fact that Hemsworth now lives in Australia’s Byron Bay and is good mates with fellow local and Parkway Drive drummer Ben Gordon and it seems the obvious choice.

The task and training were all part of Hemsworth’s starring role in the second season of ‘Limitless’, a Disney+ show that sees the actor “explore ways to improve health and live longer by undergoing extreme challenges”.

This particular challenge was posed by Sheeran, who set Hemsworth the task of joining him onstage to play drums in front of a massive crowd at the Bucharest National Arena in Romania.

The challenge is supposed to boost cognitive abilities via the learning of new skills.
