Two people have been arrested after a 17-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a car, police have said.

Emergency crews were called to the incident at Northam Bridge, Southampton, shortly after 1.20am on Saturday.

Two males, aged 17 and 29, were inside the silver VW Polo when it struck the white Yamaha YZF, Hampshire Constabulary said.

They have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The teenage motorcyclist from Fareham, Hampshire, died in hospital from his injuries.

Hampshire Constabulary said: “We would like to thank motorists for their patience as the Northam Bridge was closed for several hours before it could be reopened.

“We would like to speak to any witnesses and in particular anyone with relevant dash cam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it.”

In an update on Sunday (26 April) on the two people arrested, police said: "The 17-year-old man has since been released from custody and will face no further action in relation to this offence.

"The 29-year-old man has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue."
