Teenager killed in Derbyshire crash described as 'outgoing' and 'very motivated'
Tributes are being paid to 17-year-old Summer
A mother has paid tribute to her “outgoing” and “very motivated” 17-year-old daughter who was killed in a car crash in Derbyshire.
The girl, named only as Summer by police, was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa that left the road and collided with a tree at around 11pm on Sunday, Derbyshire Constabulary said.
She died at the scene in Sutton Lane, Sutton Scarsdale, and the 19-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, the force said previously.
Summer’s grandfather nicknamed her Twinkle for “lighting up his day when he spent time with her” and her death has left “a cataclysmic hole in her whole family’s life”, her father said.
She had been “excited” about her new job at McDonald’s and was studying construction at college, said her mother, named as Beckie by police.
Carpentry was her favourite part of the course and she planned to work with her stepfather Julian, she added.
The “family-oriented” girl “adored her little sisters Bonnie and Bella” and was “an incredibly loved daughter, sister, niece and cousin”, her mother said in her tribute published by the force.
She added: “Summer was an outgoing young girl, full of life, bubbly, very chatty and loved being the centre of attention.
“She was very motivated and knew where she wanted to go in life.
“Summer was a very playful character. She loved getting new piercings and was excited about getting her first tattoo when she turned 18 in October.
“Her hobbies included eating out as she loved her food, going out with her friends and looking after her pets.”
The Mansfield Town football club fan had three horses and loved baking, cooking and making YouTube videos, her parents added.
Her father, Rob, said she “loved telling random jokes”.
He said in his statement: “We are very proud to have Summer as our daughter and granddaughter.
“She was always smiling and lit up every room she entered with her twinkly, chatty personality.
“Summer’s death has left a cataclysmic hole in her whole family’s life and everyone who knew Summer.”
Two other passengers were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said previously.
The driver and another passenger sustained injuries that were not thought to be serious.
