Oxford have been relegated from the Championship before they play Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

The struggling U's were six points from safety before today and relied on two wins in their last two games, as well as two losses for Charlton, for a chance of staying up.

Matt Bloomfield's side will now be joining Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City in League One, while Coventry are promoted to the Premier League.

The manager took over the U's from Gary Rowett in January, when they were sitting at 23rd in the table.

Since then, he has led them to victories over Leicester, West Brom, Preston, Blackburn Rovers and Watford, but they will be finishing in 22nd.

Up to now, Oxford have won 10 Championship matches this season, lost 20 and drawn 14 .

Their final game is away at Millwall next Saturday.
