Labour conference kicks off in Liverpool
Over 20,000 delegates are due in the city
The Labour Party’s annual conference kicks off in Liverpool today.
It will run until the 1st October, bringing more than 20,000 delegates and visitors to the city.
The main venue for the event is ACC Liverpool, with additional activities and fringe events planned in surrounding venues across the city.
The four-day conference will feature keynote speeches, policy votes, training sessions for party members, and a programme of fringe events hosted by media outlets, charities and think tanks.
Speaking ahead of the event, Chief Inspector Iain Wyke, Force Operations Protective Security for Merseyside Police, said: “Drawing on our experience in managing large-scale events, we have planned thoroughly for the conference, working closely alongside event organisers and security providers at ACC Liverpool; Liverpool City Council; and other partners in the transport, hospitality and government sectors.
“This policing operation has been running for several months, and will ensure that delegates, visitors and residents alike are able to make the most of what the city has to offer, while we continue to provide an effective service across Merseyside during the conference.
It's expected to bring a boost to the city over the weekend and into the week with hotels booked up.
Key figures such as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves will give speeches to party members.
