Jason Arday's memoir to be published in the UK as planned
Family honours his wishes following his passing
The memoir of Professor Jason Arday, titled "Great And Unfortunate Things," will be released in the UK, fulfilling his wishes, as confirmed by his family.
Prof Arday recently resigned from his position at the University of Cambridge amid intense scrutiny over allegations of plagiarism.
He was found dead on 14th August in Battersea, south London.
The memoir's publisher, Simon & Schuster, stated they would release the book on Thursday as initially planned.
Prof Arday's family expressed their decision to honour his wishes through a statement with Simon & Schuster:
"To the very end, Jason was clear that he wanted his memoir to be published and it is only right that we honour his wishes.
“There has been so much that has been written and said about our beloved brother, son, father, partner and uncle, mostly by people who don’t know the truth of what he experienced, and we experienced as a family, or what an extraordinary person he was.
“We are happy to allow the book to speak for itself and won’t comment further on its content.
“The family is still in shock and we are grieving. We call upon the media to give the family the space it needs to come to terms with this terrible loss.”
Accusations of plagiarism were initially raised by academic Nathan Cofnas, leading to scrutiny on Prof Arday.
However, in the wake of Prof Arday's passing, Mr Cofnas was suspended from his post at Ghent University, which has initiated a preliminary disciplinary investigation and has publicly opposed discrimination, hatred, and racism.
In a show of respect and support, organisers reported over 30,000 people attended a vigil for Prof Arday in Trafalgar Square, central London last week (17 August)
