London nightclub Heaven has been officially recognised as an Asset of Community Value.

The venue's been an integral part of the city's LGBTQ+ scene for nearly 50 years, with the City of Westminster making the decision after it was nominated by the Night Time Industries Association and its chief executive, Michael Kill.

In the post on Instagram, owner Jeremy Joseph said: "We would also like to thank the City of Westminster for recognising Heaven's role as an established & valued LGBTQ+ community asset & cultural venue.

"Heaven opened its doors in 1979 and has played an important part in London's LGBTQ* community & nightlife for over 46 years.

"To have Heaven recognised in this way is something I'm incredibly proud of.

"It recognises not only Heaven's history & cultural significance, but also the important role it continues to play in the LGBTQ+ community.

"Hopefully, this recognition will help protect Heaven for the future as G-A-Y moves forward with its plans to transform Heaven into a charity-run venue."
