Investigation underway after car with toddler inside stolen in Wakefield

The car and child were located about 15 minutes later in Leeds

An investigation is underway after a car with a 2-year-old child inside was stolen in Wakefield, later being found in Leeds.

Police say they were called last night at around 8.30pm to Long Thorpe Lane.

About 15 minutes later Police found the car near the Woodlesford Lock and the child was returned safely to their family.

Officers go on to say that they are currently investigating the incident.

A Police statement said:

"Officers received reports of a stolen car at around 8.30pm last night (5 August).

"The car was stolen from Long Thorpe Lane, Wakefield, and a child was in the car.

"Within approximately fifteen minutes of the report the police recovered the car near Woodlesford Lock, Leeds, and the child was returned to their family safely. Enquiries are currently ongoing."
