One person hospitalised after fire breaks out at Catterick Garrison
Crews from North Yorkshire and County Durham tackled the blaze through the night

One person has been taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at an accommodation block in Catterick Garrison.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 19:48 on 24th September 2026 following reports from on-site personnel of a fire within the building.
Multiple fire appliances were sent to the scene, with crews remaining there overnight before the blaze was brought under control.
H2 How the fire crews responded
Fire appliances from Richmond, Reeth and Bedale were the first to arrive after the initial call.
On arrival, crews found the building well alight.
Additional appliances from Leyburn, Northallerton and Masham were then mobilised to help tackle the fire.
An appliance from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, along with its Aerial Ladder Platform, also attended to support North Yorkshire crews.
H2 Blaze brought under control overnight
Firefighters worked through the night to bring the fire under control.
The last fire resources left the scene at 02:43.
On-site personnel are continuing to keep a watching brief on the building overnight.
H2 Investigation to take place
Fire Investigation Officers are due to examine the scene later this morning to establish the cause of the blaze.
One person was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
An Army Spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a fire broke out within a Single Living Accommodation block at Gaza Barracks in Catterick on 24th September 2026.
"North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service attended, and the fire was brought under control. We are grateful to the Fire Service for their swift action.”
“As the matter is still under investigation we cannot comment further.”
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has not released further details on the extent of the damage to the accommodation block.
