Fire crews have declared a major incident in response to a large-scale wildfire at Tintwistle Moor, near Glossop.
Bosses say firefighters have been facing difficult conditions as they work to control the blaze and "safeguard infrastructure and environment".
Multiple fire appliances and specialist wildfire resources have been deployed, supported by neighbouring services and partner agencies such as Peak District Fire Operations Group, United Utilities, Derby Mountain Rescue, and Derbyshire Constabulary.
Efforts have been paused this evening (Sunday 12th July) given what crews describe as "challenging terrain", but say they return to the scene in the early hours of the morning, with support from helicopters to drop water on the area from nearby reservoirs.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are urging people to avoid the affected area to enable emergency services to operate safely and efficiently.
They're also urging people not to light campfires or barbecues and advise against irresponsible disposal of rubbish or cigarettes due to the dry weather conditions that can aid rapid fire spread.
Meanwhile, emergency services are battling another blaze at Dovestone Moor in Greater Manchester.
Fire crews have been on site since Saturday evening following reports of fire, with smoke spreading to surrounding areas including Manchester city centre.
Although unconfirmed, witness accounts suggest that fireworks may have sparked the fire.
As a precaution, people across Greater Manchester are advised to keep windows and doors closed.
